Junior Squad

Step Rock’s Junior Squad comprises swimmers who have progressed from Learn To Swim and wish to compete for the club. Most swimmers will have gained proficiency in all four strokes, including turns, and have the ability to dive from the starting blocks, before moving to the Junior Squad. The main training session for the Junior Squad is at East Sands Leisure Centre, on Thursdays from 7-8pm, plus a term-time only session at St Leonards swimming pool (Mondays, 6:30-7:30pm, runs throughout the October and Easter holidays but not during the Christmas or summer breaks). Alternative or additional sessions may be offered depending on space, attendance, commitment to galas and proficiency.

It is expected that all Junior Squad swimmers will compete for the club at the Novice/Fife Leagues if selected. Most Junior Squad swimmers also compete at other galas throughout the year, which the club strongly encourages.

The kit list for Junior Squad is: gala shirt; swimwear; well-fitting goggles such as Speedo (Junior) Fastskins which do not come off when diving; short fins (such as Kiefer); mesh bag; finger paddles; swimmer’s snorkel (such as Finis, + noseclip if needed), pullbuoy and a kickboard.
